Went to Afton at Steve & Jennie's invitation on Sunday afternoon.  There were boat rides, and there was swimming in the St. Croix, and I saw a goldfinch and Elle found some really spectacular agates, and dinner was superb and Mike and Elle will possibily be going back at some point to water-ski.

But you know, I could spend time with Steve and Jennie and their families sitting outside in 40 below weather in North Minneapolis, and it would still be relaxed and lovely, because they are lovely people.  There are very few people that I have met since college that I can relax that completely with-- [livejournal.com profile] mrissa and some of her household, and Lydy and some of HER household, and that's about it.

There was also target shooting.

There is something really soothing about target shooting with a .22, even when the stock is a touch too short for my shoulder.

I've MISSED shooting-- not handguns, but rifles.  Brings back memories of the good old days when I was a teenager and I could set up pop cans across the creekbed and with my sneakers soaked, lie prone on the ground in the sun and try to blow all the cans off their respective rocks.

This time, we shot at flipper-targets with a scope sighted in for 50 yards, on a 30 yard 'range'.  Once I got the knack of aiming, I did all right.

Let me add a .22 to the list of things I'd love to own someday when the Roo is larger.

Work is... better.  Doing inpatient stuff now, and cheerfully.  Got a good team of medical students, got better interns.  And even being up all night isn't as bad as it could be, when you have people who have good attitudes and are eager to learn.

Came home post call to a very sweet little Roo and a nap, and I missed my appointment for sleep apnea evaluation (I slept through it), and an early dinner of chicken nuggets and frozen pizza.

Then a walk around Lake Como and 15 minutes spent listening to a jazz open-air concert with a fixated Roo ("Dumpets, Mommy.  Kar-eh-net, mommy.  DRUMS, mommy!"), and some play time at the Roseville public library, where I picked up _Kingdom of Cages_, which I have always meant to get around to reading, and a trip to DQ where Roo ate most of my brownie earthquake surprise and Elle's Brownie Batter Blizzard was really spectacular.  A trip to the video store procured me _Hidalgo_ so that I may watch Viggo.

(I am mildly annoyed by the portrayal of annie oakley, which is inaccurate and insulting-- not to mention demeaning.  However, that is a minor blip in a very good movie.)

And Roo, the sweet boy, went to bed with only minimal protests about wanting to watch the 'horse movie'.
