Robin/eye update
Jan. 25th, 2008 08:09 pmRobin's eye appointment went long (2:40 pm until 4:30 pm), but went well. This is the news:
--He is legally blind in the bad eye. However, at this point he is correctable to about 20/60 with glasses.
--There is no cataract formation and his retina is intact! This is unusual; unusually good, that is.
--He is allowed to resume activities, with the exception of any 'ball' sports.
--His medications have been decreased
--His good eye needs an increased amount of patching
Robin is thrilled; especially as regards the glasses! He has wanted glasses for a long time. He finally got his glasses today, and they will hold him through until the end of March or thereabouts. This will make patching the good eye infinitely better, as he'll be able to SEE things. He is also excited about resuming karate and recess, although I am told that, "Gym is BORING; can't I keep my extra art class instead?"
What does the future hold? All we know is this:
--In two weeks, we will have to take him to see the pediatric ophthalmologist
--Around the end of March, the stitches will come out and he will undergo an exam under general anesthesia to get a better look at the retina
This is so much better than the worst case scenario (episcleritis, having to take the eyeball out) that we are overjoyed.
